SynTex

The main goal of EU-Project SynTex is the association of human perceptions and expectations with visual and tactile textures. Therefore, hierarchical machine-learning based models with a touch of psychological plausibility were investigated and developed. Another central issue was the automatic synthesis of visual textures based on given human perceptions. This problem could be solved by an inversion process using genetic algorithms (GAs) coupled with a texture mixing approach using the proposed texture characteristics generated by the genetic optimization procedure. This project was funded by the EC as FP6/STREP project (Contract No. 043157), lasting from November 2006 to October 2009.
