SHORT DESCRIPTION OF SEMINAR PURPOSE/MISSION
Since its original formulation by L. Zadeh, the concept of a fuzzy
subset has been viewed and used as a tool to reformulate, apply,
generalize, and enrich many traditional concepts and theories in logic,
topology, measure theory, algebra, and other mathematical disciplines.
The 20th Linz Seminar on Fuzzy Set Theory is dedicated to summarizing
these developments in topology and algebra so as to stimulate further
and better research as well as clarify the distinctive role of fuzzy
sets in these disciplines. Additionally, it is a special purpose of the
Seminar to clarify the meaning of morphism between algebraic structures
based on fuzzy subsets.
This Seminar will therefore consider, but not be limited to, the
following topics in topology and algebra:
- axiomatic and categorial foundations
- homomorphism and isomorphism theorems
- fundamental examples
- lattice-theoretic and categorial methods
- separation and compactness axioms
- uniformities and convergence structures
Featuring both invited and contributed talks, the Seminar will feature
ample time for participants to fully discuss each presentation, a
fundamental aspect of the "Linz" tradition. Thus it is anticipated that
the 20th Seminar will make a significant contribution to the mathematics
of fuzzy sets in topology and algebra.
CONTRIBUTED TALKS
If you are interested in giving a contributed talk, please submit an
abstract of no more than 650 words to the Program Chair no later than 31
October 1998.
- It is preferred that your submission be made by e-mail, in which
case it is also preferred that this submission be a LaTeX 2e (or 2.09)
file in ASCIIÑplease, no zipped filesÑif at all possible. The subject
line for such an e-mail should include the phrase "20th Linz Seminar"
and it should be addressed to BOTH of the following:
rodabaug@math.ysu.edu, serod@concentric.net
It would also be helpful if your submission included your snail-mail
address, fax number, and any additional e-mail addresses or phone
numbers that you deem helpful.
- If you wish to make your submission by snail-mail, then please mail
your abstract, including hardcopy and a disk with a LaTeX 2e (or 2.09)
file (if possible), to the following address:
|
Stephen E. Rodabaugh
Program Chair of 20th Linz Seminar
Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Youngstown State University
Youngstown, OH, USA 44555-3609
|
Also include in your submission fax number(s), e-mail address(es), or
any information that might be helpful.
- The deadline for all submissions is 31 October 1998; and you should
be notified no later than 30 November 1998 concerning acceptance of your
presentation into the Seminar.
- Because of the limited number of slots for contributed talks, these
slots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis from those
abstracts deemed suitable.

Vienna, Zürich, and Brussels (daily) as well as with Amsterdam and Paris. It is also possible to fly to Vienna and to continue by train (two hours) to Linz
(the bus running from the Vienna airport to the Westbahnhof takes approximately
one hour).
Excellent railway connections with all major cities in Central, Western and
Eastern Europe.
In February the weather is usually cold, with temperatures often below zero
(centigrades), and the chance of snow or rain is rather high.
